1 Corinthians 13: 1 & 13

If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

Sacrifice is for drugs and love (3B Lai Ka Chun, Matthew)

In the ambulance, stone’s eyes were shut, being considered that excessive heroin had entered his eyes. After being sent into the operation room, Emma, Stone’s girlfriend, was sobbing with head down. A lot of unexpected things had happened. ‘Wait for me, I will probably come out from this awful hospital, Emma.’ Stone told Emma in a weak voice before having the operation.

Just two days ago, an immense roar came from the office of News Reporting Department. Mr. Wickedly, an obese man wearing tight braces lifted a chair up and broke it into half.

‘Someone must have stolen my wallet!’ shouted Mr. Wickedly.

‘Who’s so bold to have done it?’ whispered some of the employees, talking to each other secretly.

‘I saw Stone sneaking into your office and later hiding a black wallet with white diagonal lines when coming out. I can now make sure that the wallet is in the inner pocket of Stone’s jacket, Mr. Wickedly.’ recalled Pain, a horrid man having two gold teeth.

‘Stone, please show up in front of me with your jacket put on!’ yelled furiously Mr. Wickedly.

‘What’s going on?’ asked curiously Stone, having wavy hair and wearing blue jeans.

‘Take off your jacket quickly!’ ordered anxiously Mr. Wickedly.

Stone did as what Mr. Wickedly had said and then the back wallet was really found in the inner pocket. Stone’s mouth fell open. Actually, he had seen through that was the evil plot of Pain’s.

‘Any explanations?’ asked Mr. Wickedly.

‘I don’t know what to say, even you keep accusing me. It’s really not done by me.’ said stone, trying helping himself.

‘Let’s fire him, he still doesn’t admit this ounce of truth, Mr. Wickedly.’ grinned Pain.

‘Wait, Mr. Wickedly. I can photograph the hotspot of drug dealing dominated by the wanted, Toxic. For you as quick as possible, ok?’ interrupted Stone.

‘Can you really catch the moments of drug dealing to be the first reported scripting the headline?’ suspected Mr. Wickedly.

‘Exactly.’ answered confidently Stone.

‘Deal it!’ said Mr. Wickedly.

‘Maybe I just make use of my proficiency of being a reporter as an excuse.’ thought Stone.

Pain stamped on the floor. He was pressing the buttons to call Toxic and told him to murder Stone during the secret investigation.

In a fabulous restaurant, Stone had dated Emma to have a dinner with him. Both of them dressed in western style suit and dress. They had been getting along with each other for a long period of time. In the middle of the dating, Stone brought up the current work and mission courageously and shared them with Emma.

‘I’m following up… a case of photographing the process of drug dealing dominated by Toxic. I’ll go investigating after several days.’ said Stone.

‘Pardon? I think it’s not my hearing loss problem. Don’t you know how devilish Toxic is? Don’t you know this tremendous mission will get rid of you in case of any mistake?’ responded loudly Emma.

‘I absolutely know, I know, Emma. Listen to me, I am in charge of this and I have been determined to do so.’ replied Stone.

‘I also know your name “Stone”. Can’t you be that persistent as a real stone? As you know danger will come forward to you reporters, without telling you what’ll happen next!’ said Emma, starting to give some disputes.

‘I understand your feelings and concern about these. I’ll walk by faith to make proofs to you, Emma.’ insisted Stone.

‘Ok! That’s fine… I respect your decision but you must promise to have the mission completed and to be back without any injuries.’ said sensibly Emma.

‘Yes, I promise you, Emma. It’s the honourable commitment between you and I’ smiled Stone, then hugged and kissed with Emma.

The astonishing day came eventually. Stone was packing his digital equipment. No one had ever known what the result would be. Stone just knew he should go to the alcohol factory and photograph the moments of drug dealing between Toxic and a teenage called Wilson who was the son of Pain. After arriving at the factory, Stone stared at the gate and was thinking about how to have it done by perseverance.

Stepping into the corridors, where were some cupboards storing glasses of alcohol. Stone could hear the conversation between Toxic and Wilson and his awareness was aroused.

‘Twenty-eight packages of heroin here with payment $6750.’ said softly Toxic.

‘Thank you…thank you… these’re what I want.’ said Wilson, paying money with a shaking hand.

‘Who’s hiding behind that cupboard?’ awoke Toxic, pointing at the cupboard.

Virtually, Stone forgot to switch off the function of flash as that there was a bright light beam when he took the photos. Toxic discovered that Stone was there and then he grabbed a glass of alcohol to throw on Stone. Abruptly, Stone’s eyes started being hot as a fire was burning in his eyes.

The glass of alcohol floating in the air slowed down and was broken into pieces by the power of telekinesis. It frightened Toxic and Wilson, and even Stone was panicky. Toxic knew what to do with the circumstance so he took a package of heroin and unwrapped it, spead the white small solids in the air. Due to the speedy spread rate, the heroin entered the eyes of Stone whose telekinesis was spoiled. Stone’s eyes began being paralysed and painful. Stone dropped the camera and he could feel Toxic and Wilson escaping as far as possible. However, he laid down on the floor, bearing an unclear mind.

After a 9-hour operation, Stone lying on the bed was pushed out of the room by the doctors. Emma stopped weeping and quickly went to take a tight hold of Stone’s hands.

‘Your commitment is honoured, Stone.’ Smiled Emma, some weep falling down from her face.

‘I’ll not give up being with you.’ Said gently Stone, staring at Emma.

‘Toxic and Wilson’ ve been arrested and your photos of the camera is sent to be put at the headlines of today’s newspapers.’ Said Emma, with a relaxing heart.

‘It proves that the sacrifice of barely contributing my life brings me a kind-hearted girlfriend and wards off the bad effects of drugs spreading in the community.’ realized Stone.

Both of them smiled to each other, and then hugged together and kissed each other…

Laura and Samantha (3C Lung Cheuk Hang, Rita)

It was a sunny day. The weather was perfect for the first day of school. In the classroom of 5C, all students were glad to meet again and flocked to gossip. The bell rang and a teacher came with a girl. Everybody was curious who she was.

“Good morning everyone, I’m your new class teacher, Miss Chan. And this girl is your new classmate,’ Miss Chan announced, pointing to the girl beside her.

“Hello, I’m Samantha,” the girl said with a smile.

Samantha was a tall and pretty girl. She looked very mature and a little bit older than other students. Samantha was asked to sit next to Laura, who was helpful and intelligent. They became friends very soon.

“Laura, can you show me around?” Samantha asked after school.

“Okay, but not today. I need to go somewhere else. I’m sorry.” Laura answered embarrassingly.

After Laura had left school, she went to her boyfriend, Nick’s home. She saw many pills on a table and Nick was sleeping on a sofa.

“Nick, what’s up? Why are there many pills? Are you sick?”

“Don’t need to worry. I’m alright.”

“But how about these pills? Are you on drugs?”

“Shut up! Don’t speak like my parents! They don’t understand me but you should,” Nick shouted.

“Drugs are evil. I love you so I don’t want you to be hurt.”

“If you love me, you should take drugs with me,” Nick lost his temper.

Laura struggled a lot. Eventually, she was convinced. Since her first try on drugs, the problem started. Laura got addicted to drugs. She was not interested in anything, except drugs. As Laura did not pay attention in school and do homework anymore, her academic result dropped rapidly. Samantha noticed that there is something wrong with Laura.

“Laura, do you encounter any problem? You can tell me.”

“No! No! I’m fine,” Laura answered anxiously.

‘But why did you fail in exam? You usually get high marks easily.’

‘Umm…’ Laura did not want Samantha to know she took drugs.

Samantha realized Laura was so strange and decided to investigate.

Laura rushed to Nick’s home after school as usual.

‘Nick! Where are the drugs? ’Laura shouted as she could not find them.

‘Can’t you just zip up? You’re annoying. I lost my job and I can’t afford them,’ Nick shouted even loudly.

‘I can’t live without them!’

‘I have a great idea,’ Nick whispered, ‘deliver drugs!’

Laura thought a while, then she said, ‘I’ll do it. I’ll do everything for drugs.’

The next day, Laura went to a convenient store. Laura did not realize someone was chasing behind her.

‘Are you Laura?’ a stranger said.

Laura nodded.

‘Go to Tuen Mun Park. Find a man in brown jacket and jeans. Then give it to him and he’ll give you money.’ The stranger said and gave Laura a pack of drugs.

Laura left the convenient store. She was very scared. Her heart was pounding. She forced herself to look casual.

After a while, she reached Tuen Mun Park and found the man in brown jacket and jeans. She approached him slowly. Laura was sweating. As Laura attempted to give the drugs to him, someone grabbed her hand. It was Samantha!

‘You can’t do that!’ Samantha yelled emotionally.

‘Why are you here?’ Laura asked surprisingly.

The man was afraid to be caught so he ran away.

‘Freeze! I’m police.’ Samantha ordered.

Laura’s month fell open with surprise. Then, a large number of policemen came. Laura was frightened and almost fainted. She was caught and sent to a police station. Laura and Nick were found guilty and sent to prison at last.

A month later, Samantha went to jail to visit Laura.

‘How are you?’  Samantha asked sorrowfully.

‘I’m fine. I’m fighting my addiction to drugs.’

‘I’m sorry, Laura. I cheated you. I’m a policeman and my boss sent me to your school to investigate drug abuse in school. I really don’t want to catch my friend.’ Samantha sobbed.

‘I’ve thought a lot there. I was totally wrong and I deserved it. You don’t need to apologize. It was your duty. We are still friends, aren’t we?’

Samantha wiped off her tears. ‘What are you going to do in the future?’ She smiled.

‘I want to be a social worker. I want to teach teenagers not to take drugs. They can ruin your life. Knock drugs out!’

News Commentary – Children in Poverty (3D Wong Po Yiu, Beeno)

I could not believe my eyes that three family members only live in a 4 sqm subdivided flat. Also, Amy and her brother are very poor that their father has abandoned them and their mother is still in mainland. Apart from those children’s stories, I think there are still many Hong Kong people in poverty – Yes, it is Hong Kong people! Many people think that Hong Kong is a developed city and it is rich in resources. No one is in poverty. However, it is not the case. I have watched the news from the television and the newspaper. They told me that there are plenty of Hong Kong people live in a very small area with poor living standard.

With regard to the attached news, Amy’s daily life is on the tiny bunk bed. For instance, she does her homework, plays or sleeps there. Even her birthday is coming, she cannot have any special celebration that day. Janice’s story is another instance of poverty. She lives in a tiny squatter’s area and her life is very hard that she has to borrow money from others. The children do not want any special things but only a better living standard.

I think they are looking forward to the help from the government. However, the new Hong Kong Chief Executive CY Leung has not fulfilled his promise so far. He did not give the public housing to the poor family. Does it mean that they need to keep waiting for this basic necessity?

I hope the government can help them more effectively. Although we are not the government, we can still give a helping hand to them. Firstly, we should not ignore the poverty in Hong Kong. We can donate money and food to them through the fund-raising activities, such as flag day, walkathon and so on. If we know some of the charities, we can give some materials to them as well.

This news also inspires me a lot. Nowadays, many of us take everything we have for granted. Nevertheless, this thought is wrong. We know that there are many poor people exist in the world. We are lucky that we have clothes, food and house at present.

In conclusion, we should treasure our things we have and do not take them for granted because there are many poor people who are worried about their lives. We should not be a selfish person and care about them more.

Letter to the Editor (3E Lam Lok Yin, Daisy)

Dear Editor,

I am writing to express my views on teenage issues. I would like to talk about the problem teenagers face nowadays and offer some solutions to the problems.

First of all, the common teenagers problem is Internet addiction. They spend much time of the Internet till midnight regardless of a lots of homework and revisions. This problem is caused by much pressure from academic and they want to escape from reality. Besides, they want to get ‘sense of achievement’ from virtual world. In order to help them stay away from the Internet, they should explore more interest, such as basketball and drawing.

Moreover, the idol worship becomes more serious due to the promotion of the entertainments and televisions. Since this social atmosphere extends to teenagers, they would give up studying and relationship with parents or classmates, and are only concerned about idol. Parents can tackle this problem by standing from their views. Parents need to address the problem by caring such as understanding their needs and feeling instead of scolding.

Last but not least, teenagers are keen on their peer most of the time. Therefore, they are easily affected by their friends. This makes the problem peer pressure exist. Teenagers not only want to have self-identity, but also want to have a companion. So, the problem of peer pressure becomes more serious. They can seek help from social workers and parents, because they can give them some rational opinions. They can also find some methods that are suitable for them to release these pressures.

To sum up, if teenagers find out they’re facing problems, they should forwardly seek for help from someone reliable. I hope that these solutions can help teenagers. Furthermore, I hope they can face these predicaments. Although the world is full of suffering, they can overcome them by love.

Yours faithfully,

Daisy
