I could not believe my eyes that three family members only live in a 4
sqm subdivided flat. Also, Amy and her brother are very poor that their father
has abandoned them and their mother is still in mainland. Apart from those
children’s stories, I think there are still many Hong Kong people in poverty –
Yes, it is Hong Kong people! Many people think that Hong Kong is a developed
city and it is rich in resources. No one is in poverty. However, it is not the
case. I have watched the news from the television and the newspaper. They told
me that there are plenty of Hong Kong people live in a very small area with
poor living standard.
With regard to the attached news, Amy’s daily life is on the tiny bunk
bed. For instance, she does her homework, plays or sleeps there. Even her
birthday is coming, she cannot have any special celebration that day. Janice’s
story is another instance of poverty. She lives in a tiny squatter’s area and
her life is very hard that she has to borrow money from others. The children do
not want any special things but only a better living standard.
I think they are looking forward to the help from the government. However, the new Hong Kong Chief Executive CY Leung has not fulfilled his promise so far. He did not give the public housing to the poor family. Does it mean that they need to keep waiting for this basic necessity?
I hope the government can help them more effectively. Although we are
not the government, we can still give a helping hand to them. Firstly, we
should not ignore the poverty in Hong Kong. We can donate money and food to
them through the fund-raising activities, such as flag day, walkathon and so
on. If we know some of the charities, we can give some materials to them as
well.
This news also inspires me a lot. Nowadays, many of us take everything
we have for granted. Nevertheless, this thought is wrong. We know that there
are many poor people exist in the world. We are lucky that we have clothes,
food and house at present.
In conclusion, we should treasure our things we have and do not take
them for granted because there are many poor people who are worried about their
lives. We should not be a selfish person and care about them more.
