1 Corinthians 13: 1 & 13

If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

Comments – Conflicts between mainlanders and Hongkongers (6B Po Wing Shan)

In fact, the recent conflicts between the China and Hong Kong somewhat are caused by the impolite behaviour of the mainlanders. As the RMB appreciates against the Hong Kong dollar and the transport network becomes better, Hong Kong is easily accessible to the mainlanders. In addition, their money is more useful now as they can use less proportion of income to buy more expensive goods in Hong Kong. That’s why they come to Hong Kong for shopping frequently in these years.

Since they stay in Hong Kong for a longer time, we can see what they behave daily. They like shouting, arguing, glaring at people, complaining and slapping to something or somebody. These are the common scenes the local pedestrians have seen. I suppose that most of the mainlanders think themselves as the superior class who can do anything with their money. They put the profit above the conscience and look down upon the Hong Kong people. Some of them even said that they are the main support in boosting the economy of Hong Kong. Therefore, they are more suitable to live in Hong Kong, and hence have the rights to insult Hong Kong people! Their arrogant words and deeds keep touching off our angry constantly.

However, from the rational point of view, their impolite behavior is due to their backward education partially. Unlike us, their education system is defective during China’s politically tumultuous times. Many middle-aged or older mainlanders have been deprived of or received little education at that time.

But this can’t be an excuse for them to behave in an unruly manner. They not only give a disrespectful impression to us, but also give this impression to the world. Hence, it is necessary to educate or rule their manner. Maybe setting the rules helps restrict their behavour, but educating people the appropriate manner is the most effective and the long-term way.
