Recently, all S3 students are learning the topic “Healthy Living”. We want to share with you some tips about how to lead a healthy lifestyle, especially on how to eat smart.
Scene 1
(Sherry is eating at McDonald’s)
Sherry : Hey, do you know eating McDonald’s is so unhealthy?
Bet: So what, but I can’t stop eating it. Don’t you think it is so delicious? Want some fries?
Sherry : No, thanks. I don't want to become supersized.
Bet: Come on, just a bite.
Sherry : In fact, junk food contains lots of sugar and fat but very low nutrition value. Have you ever watched a movie called “Super size me!”?
Bet: Never heard of this one before. What is it about?
Sherry : It’s about a man in the US trying to do an experiment on himself. He wanted to find out what would happen to him after eating McDonald’s meals for 30 days.
Bet: Wow, cool. How was he then?
Sherry: Well, he gained 25 pounds in 30 days! It is about 10% of his original weight!
Bet: Really? It sounds scary! Actually I feel I’ve put on weight recently…. But I just can’t live without them, especially McDonald’s, what can I do?
Sherry : Why don’t we listen to the conversations between the CEO of McDonald’s Mr. James Parkinson and our school’s dietician, Dr. Qiao Leung?
Scene 2
(In the school hall, debating)
Qiao：Do you know that fast food plays an increasingly important part of our diet? A survey in Hong Kong showed that 10% of people eat fast food at least once a week! That’s really scary!
James(CEO of McDonald’s)： Oh! I see you point but it is quick and convenient. Also, fast food is very delicious and cheap too!
Qiao：Nonsense! Have you seen the movie “Supersize Me”? It’s about the terrifying health results of an actor eating your food for a whole month.
James：Oh! Ridiculous! Mcdonald’s food is very very healthy. Our ‘salad series’ is a good example. It contains plenty of vegetables which are tasty and good for your health!
Qiao: Are you kidding me?
James: I’m honest. Can’t you see almost every teenager loves eating fast food like Big Mac and French fries? But it seems that they don’t have such terrifying health problems. McDonald’s is the BEST! Hahaha… I’m lovin it! I’m lovin it!
Qiao：Come on, stop misleading us! Fast food such as French Fries contains excess fat, salt and cholesterol and it leads to many health problems which increase the chance of developing obesity, coronary heart disease, stroke, diabetes …… you name it!
Scene 3
(In the classroom)
Simon: After hearing the conversation between the dietician and the CEO of McDonald’s, we know that fast food is delicious but unhealthy.
Dylan: Yes, you are right! I won’t eat junk food anymore. I want to have a healthier lifestyle. I will eat food which is low in fat but high in fibre and exercise in the gym whenever I have spare time.
Simon: Good idea! But the fact is, most of the students do not notice the disadvantages of eating fast food and still continue their unhealthy lifestyle. Can’t you see how serious the problem is?
Simon + Dylan: So, if you want to have a healthier lifestyle and better academic results, please stay away from junk food. -END-

Reading Comprehension Report (4E Lee Sum Yin)
Name: Classic Detective Stories

This book includes 4 detective stories, all of them are the classic one. Among them, Sherlock Holmes is my favourite.
The story takes place in the nineteenth century. The detectives use many special methods and techniques to solve the mystery and arrest the criminals. The story is presented chronologically. At the beginning, it all talks about the crime scenes and the events that trigger the crime. Then it talks about how the detectives collect evidences in the crime scenes and find the witness who spot the crime. Lastly, the detective can arrest the criminal.
After reading the four classic detective stories. I find this book very interesting. I can learn the ways to prove someone is guilty or not. It is very exciting to follow the steps of the detectives. After reading this book, I want to read Sherlock Holmes series. It makes me love detective stories.

Dear Mary,
How are you? How have been in England? I was hyped when I knew that you are coming to Hong Kong in Christmas holiday. I’m so sure you will enjoy chilling out with me during that time.
I have already scheduled the visit for you. I will pick you up when you arrive at the airport. You will be staying at my home when you are here so that my mom and I are going to arrange a greeting party for you. You will settle down soon and find it comfortable as my parents are so nice and they would love to meet you.
On Christmas Eve, I will be a local guide and show you around Hong Kong. We will probably visit places like the Peak, the SOHO district and some malls, they are huge and fantatically well-decorated! Christmas decorations are everywhere you go and some places are painted in red and white. They look drop-dead gorgeous and stunning. The sense of Christmas is hanging over the city even though Hong Kong is not a Christian country, isn’t it fantastic?
As I know you are a devoted Christian, so I will take you to a historial church in Hong Kong in the morning of Christmas. I’m sure you would love to have a look at how we celebrate Christmas as you have never seen them before. Later on, there will be a Christmas party in my place. All my friends will join and enjoy the party. You can take this as a gathering and to meet some new friends as you are sociable. My friends will be delighted to have a Christmas party which a foreigner is taking part in, you will bring live to the party! My mother (Sam Yuen 4E/DE)
She works very hard to earn a living for the family. She is there to help the family all around the clock. She never says no to what we want. Who is she? She is our lovely mother.
My mother is a housewife but she has a part-time job, working as a clerk in a law firm. She does all the housework even she is very tired after working for the whole day. She said that our only responsibility is to study hard and strike for a place in universities instead of spending time on any other stuff. She is very responsible and we do not need to worry about the family because of her.
She has given birth to three children, my elder brother, Jim, and a twin brother of mine. We sometimes make her angry because we behave inappropriately. I remember one day, we promised to take care of ourselves because she needed to visit our grandma in the New Territories. She had, in fact, prepared the lunch boxes for us while she was not there at home. We three were so excited and we planned to lunch out together. Having lunch at home was rather boring, so we decided to lunch out that day.
Yet an accident happened, after having lunch, Jim did not feel well. He guessed he might get a stomache. We did not know what to do but sent him to the hospital. A doctor diagnosed that Jim was suffered from gastroenteritis. He had to be admitted to the hospital. He could only be discharged with being accompanied by an adult. We had to call our mother then even we knew we would seriously be punished. You know what? She did not punish us. She just worried about Jim. She comforted all of us!
Oh! Our dear mother, we love you very much.

School hero, my idol（4A Lai Yu Sum）
My school hero is Mr. Allan. He’s an Australian and he taught us English. Well, I think he’s the most excellent teacher in the world whose lessons are very meaningful.
He’s muscular and energetic, that’s why he talks like a machine gun shooting. (This would be better for describing his speed of speech!) He smiles all the time so we feel relaxed in his lessons. He’s funny that he always tells jokes to make us laugh. I remember one of our classmates, William, nearly laughed to faint in Mr. Allan’s lesson. I can see the power of jokes!
It’s a pity that our school doesn’t have an American football team, or Mr Allan would have led us win many games. He said that he was the manager of an American football team in Australia, which was called ‘Swan’. Futhermore, I’m not sure whether gum is a tradition in Australia or not. You can see a chewing gum in Mr. Allan’s mouth all the time. (If it is a truth that chewing gum is a source of power, I must follow suit.) I suppose Mr. Allan’s an expert of chewing gum, that I need to inform him when I want one.
There is no special reasons for him to be my school hero except his unique characters. He is kind, generous, humorous and polite to all his students. He’s keen on all kinds of sports so that many students like to talk to him. He could talk to his students like his best friends. That’s why he’s my school hero.
I hope if I am a teacher one day, I can be a teacher successful as him. I wish I can imitate him when I devote myself into the social service.

A letter to Sam (Reply letter) (4D Tang Sze Yu, Anthony)
Dear Sam,
How are you? I miss you so much. It seems that you are vey happy in England. I’m glad for you, too.
Last time, you asked me about who my favourite actor and singer is. My favourite actor is Lai Yiu Cheung. He won the award of ‘The best male actor’ in 2009 and 2010 continually. He acts very well, that’s why he suddenly has a lot of fans. What makes him famous is his acting skills. Everyone loves to see his acting now. The character that he acts is La Shing. It is an exciting TV programme. I watched it every night. I think the characters in this TV programme are quite complicated. Audience need to spend a lot of time to understand the story Lai Yiu Cheung acts very well. I really love to see his acting.
My favourite singer is Kary Ng. She has a beautiful voice. She sings a lot of songs that make me feel touching. She can also sing rock songs too. Five months before. She joined a band called Hardpack. From that time, all of her new songs are rock. Kary can handle all the songs skillfully. Since Kary has joined the ‘Hardpack’, I love this band very much. The pianist and drummer performed quite well. I admire their rock sound.

Book Report：The street lawyer (4B Chan Ka Yan)
Book: The street lawyer

Story / Plot:
Michael works for Drake and Sweeney as a lawyer and he earns lots of money. One day, a homeless man, Mister, goes to Drake and Sweeney because of an eviction. He attacks Michael, but Mister is shot by the policeman and is dead. Michael tries to discover who this man is, but he discovers a secret about Drake and Sweeney. The eviction is illegal and it leads to the deaths of Lonatae Burton and her children. At least, Michael’s life has changed. He is still a lawyer, but a lawyer for the homeless.
Setting / Blackground:
There are 400 lawyers working for Drake & Sweeney and they are paid an unbelievable amount of money. Although the lawyers earn a lot, they do not even help poor people. The cost for their lunch can feed a hundred of homeless people with soup, and Mister becomes homeless because of Drake & Sweeney’s eviction. That’s why Mister attacks the lawyers of D& S.
The main male character/ hero is called Michael
Short description of his appearance, personality etc: Michael is a rich lawyer. He has a wife called Claire, who is a doctor. Since both of them are very busy, it causes the end of their marriage. After their divorce, he meets Megan, who works for the homeless and it changes his life.
My favourite character is Michael
Reasons: At the beginning, Michael is not a good or kind person. He only cares about money and ignores his wife. But after the attack of Mister, he tries to know more about the homeless people. He tries to change himself from a person who is against homeless people to the one who helps them. I like him because he become a kind person. Although all of us are not perfect, we should change ourselves and try our best to achieve perfection
The most impressive episode/ scene is the march to the government buildings.
Reason(s) why impresses me:
Lonatae Burton has three children, Alenzo, Untario and the baby Temeko. They were homeless. In a cold night, they sleep in a car and Lontae Burton starts the engine of the old car to keep themselves warm. The air in the car poisoned them and they all die. After their funeral, there is a march to Capitol Hill for Burton family. It impresses me because the homeless people are very poor, but they unite together and march for Burton family. Their kindness really impresses me. I wonder why rich people in the story can’t do that or help the homeless people.
Comments / Reflections:
From the story, I can learn money is not everything. Michael has lots of money, but he is not happy and his marriage is not good. Later, when Michael begins to help homeless people, he becomes happier. To sum up, we will be happy when we always help people. Also, it’s important to talk with our families, friends regularly so that they can know more about each other and there will not be any misunderstanding.

Reasons: At the beginning, Michael is not a good or kind person. He only cares about money and ignores his wife. But after the attack of Mister, he tries to know more about the homeless people. He tries to change himself from a person who is against homeless people to the one who helps them. I like him because he become a kind person. Although all of us are not perfect, we should change ourselves and try our best to achieve perfection
The most impressive episode/ scene is the march to the government buildings.
Reason(s) why impresses me:
Lonatae Burton has three children, Alenzo, Untario and the baby Temeko. They were homeless. In a cold night, they sleep in a car and Lontae Burton starts the engine of the old car to keep themselves warm. The air in the car poisoned them and they all die. After their funeral, there is a march to Capitol Hill for Burton family. It impresses me because the homeless people are very poor, but they unite together and march for Burton family. Their kindness really impresses me. I wonder why rich people in the story can’t do that or help the homeless people.
Comments / Reflections:
From the story, I can learn money is not everything. Michael has lots of money, but he is not happy and his marriage is not good. Later, when Michael begins to help homeless people, he becomes happier. To sum up, we will be happy when we always help people. Also, it’s important to talk with our families, friends regularly so that they can know more about each other and there will not be any misunderstanding.

Honesty of reporters. Trust of readers（6A Frankie Chan）
As we all know, reading more current news is important for both students and people from all walks of life. We will totally lose the track of the world if we do not know about the news. Therefore, reading newspaper every day is a necessity for us. In order to make profit for their companies, the local reports are trying hard to dig out more news that readers seldom heard, even ignoring the credibility of newspapers which is, in contract, very important to the society. Let us discuss the issue in the following.
First and foremost, ignoring the accuracy of the reports is serious especially in the entertainment session of the newspaper. They all know that the readers attention can be drawn if they report some news the readers rarely know. Thus the commission for them will increase and so thus their profit. It is the main factor for them to write the reports without any evidence. Money looks as if the ‘delicious food’ in their eyes and they just want to get it in any methods both legal and illegal. Everyone who buys newspaper will be misguided in these ‘horrible’ reports. The credibility of the newspaper reports will be decreased although the ‘goal’ of them are fulfilled.
On the other hand, ‘paparazzi’ style of reporting is also serious among Hong Kong newspapers. Staying out the buildings that the ‘target artists’ lived is just a tip of iceberg. Following them and taking photos in the private places are also common among Hong Kong newspapers. The main reason for the reporters is to satisfy the curiosity of readers. Reporters caught up their curiosity and thus chasing the ‘targets’ that readers want to know. Effective though the method that reporters used, the freedom of artists or the victims will be ignored, as they are not invincible, stress comes to them and the pressure is harder to deal with.
After discussing the problems with Hong Kong newspapers, we can dig out that the credibility of reporters will be decreased eventually. But better late than never. If we want to save their credibility, the ways for them to improve is essential and urgent.

I strongly believe that inviting some victims for the interview is an effective method to prove the truth of news. To address on this problem, the companies of newspaper can join together for setting up some rules to save their credibility. This does not only control the style of ‘paparazzi’ but also improves the quality of newspapers.
Having, ‘trust’ is important in the society by all parties. When the readers trust what reporters wrote, the reporters need to behave themselves, ‘Honesty’ is the essential part to maintain a harmonious society. If the readers can write the reports honestly, the readers will trust them and keep buying their newspapers I strongly believe that those a cycle. Start doing it from this moment is the only way to improve the credibility. Please take it as a serious problem and solve it right now!

Letter to the Editor（6B Leroy Yuen）
Dear Editor,
As a volunteer worker for the Cancer Foundation, I am writing to invite the public to take part in our coming charity run. One may ask why this charity run matters or what they would gain from this activity. Let me assure you that by joining this charity run not only are you helping the people in need, but you are also helping yourself.
First of all, the run raises money for cancer patients. The funds raised will be used in cancer research, which is incredibly crucial in the development of cancer treatment. A huge number of people are killed by this apathetic killer every year. We urgently need more advanced cancer treatment and medical technology, and this can be achieved by doing cancer research. Therefore, we really hope people can support us by participating in the run and showing their generosity to the cancer patients. The continual development of cancer research needs money. With your donations, we can go further in cancer research and thousands of precious lives will be saved.
Secondly, the charity run also helps in raising public awareness of the cancer disease. I believe many people know that cancer is one of the deadliest diseases in the world. Nevertheless, how many people truly understand the suffering of the cancer patients and thus offer comfort and help? In fact, everyone can give a hand; everyone can do something to alleviate the pain of the cancer patients. By participating in the charity run, you will know more about this disease and may have the chance to talk to some cancer patients. You are not just there to run; you are also showing your support and encouragement to the cancer patients.
Thirdly, this charity run provides a great chance for people to relax and have fun with their friends and family. The activity also helps them broaden their social lives as they will meet new friends. More, this run gives people a chance to exercise. Hong Kong people are too busy to think about their own health, family and friends. It is time for them to stop working and do something meaningful and relaxing, such as joining our charity run, together with their family and friends.
It is better to give than to receive. We should be thankful for what we have and reach out to the people who need our help. For the sake of a batter, peaceful world, let’s participate in the charity run together!

Cheng Long-hei: (pretending calm) Just ignore this hooligan! He is no one! Go away now!
Sister Kau: (take out the grenade) Don’t think about leaving this room! No one can leave until you tell me the secret! Someone told me you called my brother “son” and my brother called you “mum” when he was in the hospital a few months ago! Tell me now, what is the relationship between you and my brother?
Cheng Long-hei : Are you insane? I’ve nothing to tell you, just let me go!
Sister Kau : (Close the door) NO one can leave! Tell me the secret now, otherwise I will pull the pin!
Sister Kau : (Pointing at Mr. Fung) You, you tell me now! Do you want to die now?
Mr. Fung: (Very scared) Fine! Fine! I tell you the secret now! Actually… your brother is your aunt’s son… he…he… isn’t your brother! He isn’t your dad’s son… he…he…

Proposal for the Summer Youth Exchange Programme (5A)
1. Introduction:
A student exchange programme is going to be organized this summer. We aim at helping them to learn about some Chinese customs and their life in Hong Kong. 50 to 55 students, aged 15-17, from the United States are visiting Hong Kong and staying here for about three weeks. We would like to suggest some interesting and cultural activities for them to do as well as provide them with opportunities to mix with local students.
2. Activities fro learning about life in Hong Kong
2.1 Visiting Tai O
Hong Kong was developed from a fishing community into an international financial center. It would be interesting to learn the history of Hong Kong by visiting Tai O because it is a famous fishing town and well known as “Venice of Hong Kong”. Furthermore, the exchange students could taste seafood in Tai O in different cooking methods, such as stir-frying, steaming and stewing, which are distinguished from western styles of roasting and baking.
2.2 Visiting Temple Street
I suggest we could visit Temple Street at night, where fortune-telling service could be found. It reflects Chinese traditional culture and beliefs. I believe it could be an impressive experience for them. Besides, we could find some Chinese products such as Chinese stamps, Chinese paintings, and so on.
2.3 Visiting Ping Shan Heritage Trail
Hong Kong is characterized by it skyscrapers. Yet, it is also eye-opening for the exchange students to visit our historical sites. The hexagonal Tsui Shing Lau Pagoda in Ping Shan Heritage Trail is perhaps one of the most striking architectural works. We could also spot other temples along the trail. The life of the old-day Chinese would be displayed to the students.
3. Activities to mix foreign with local students
3.1 School visit
In order to provide a chance for foreign student to realize Hong Kong’s teaching and learning style, we would like to arrange a school visit. We are going to form groups consisting of the exchange and local students. By doing so, they could interact with each other well as they are all in their teens.
3.2 Sports day
Sport is considered the common language and culture all over the world so we could hold a sports day to help the students to further mix together. For example, students from the United States and Hong Kong could form teams to compete with each other in a basketball competition. In this case, we could foster cooperation, team spirit and communication among the students.
4. Conclusion
We strongly believe that these activities could help the foreign students to experience Hong Kong life and make friends with local students. The activities would definitely leave them memorable episodes.

The value of holding junior positions (5E So Tsz Ying)
I think it is unnecessary for young people to hold a senior position in the first few years after graduation.
First, a lack of work experience in junior positions may prevent young people from being good leaders even however brilliant they are. Without the experience, it can be difficult for them to be empathetic with the difficulties and needs of their subordinates. They may therefore become too strict and inconsiderate.
Second, working in junior positions can allow young people to gain valuable experience. In the junior positions, young people can learn to cooperate with others but not just giving orders which enable them to be good team players.
Finally, holding junior positions, young people can enjoy more spare time for further studies. After a few years of sustaining learning, they will be equipped for capability of carrying out duties in senior positions.

Pursuing Your Dreams and Careers (Mr. Jacob Kung)
Good morning, Principal, Teachers and Students,
Today, as a Careers Guidance teacher, I’m very pleased to have this opportunity to share with you my working experience and why we’ll have to be responsible for pursuing our dreams and careers.
This year, we’ll help you to learn different virtues and responsibility is one of them. Do you know what responsibility is? Is the word “responsibility” difficult for you? Perhaps I’d use another word “D-U-T-Y”. If we have a responsibility or a duty, we’ll have to do something and can’t give up.
Perhaps you’ll agree with me that we can’t avoid doing some duties in our life. One of the things we’ll have to do is to pursue our dreams and careers. However, it is not easy to protect your dream and find a job that suits you best.
I believe finding a career that suits our true passion is very important. Ask yourself these questions, "What am I passionate about?" and “What do you always like to do?” You will discover what type of job suits you best by thinking about your interests.
For example, like a few students in MKP, if you’re serious about playing football and like to be a football player in the future, you’ll have to protect your dream and work extremely hard to make football your career. Although the training will be hard, you can’t give up because it’s your duty to protect your dream and career. Please don’t tell yourself you’re just a little bug. Please don’t quit your training and said football isn’t for you.
Like me, I dreamed to be a pilot when I was a small child. However, I haven’t protected my dream and my eyes. As a result, because I did NOTHING, I COULDN’T DO ANYTHING.
I finally had another dream when I was in secondary school. I wanted to be a teacher. When I was in university, I told myself that this time had to be different. I started to read hundreds of reference books, watch hours of videos and do a lot of part-time teaching to learn how to be a good teacher. When I left university, I realized my dream and became a teacher in a secondary school in Tin Shui Wai.
I guess we all need to be patient in pursuing our dreams and careers. We have to prepare ourselves very well for the chances in the future. We have to find our interests, know what we want to do as our careers, take up our responsibilities and just go for it!

An Unforgettable Interview with Reverend David Dean

On 26 June, we went to Mong Fook Church in Mong Kok with our teacher and Dr. Michael Leung to interview a Reverend. His name is Rev. David Dean and we asked him lots of questions about Christianity, his work as a missionary, his family and how we should live a Christian life. Some of our questions are as follows:
1.As a Christian, what do you think about those so called “Pseudo Models” in Hong Kong?
2.As drug abuse among teenagers is getting serious, do you think Christianity can help solve such problem? Why?
3.Since pre-martial sex is more common among teenagers nowadays, how will you appeal them to stop doing this?
4.What will you advise us to overcome all difficulties in our daily lives?
5.How will you guide a teenager to follow Jesus?
6.Did you feel any pressure from other people when you became a missionary?
7.Why did you become a missionary? Anything happened in your life that made you want to become a missionary?
8.As a Reverend, what’s your opinion about honesty?
9.Is that possible to be honest all the time as a Reverend?
10.What do you think about white lies? Can you accept it?
11.Do you expect your sons to become Reverends? Do you have any expectations of their careers?
As you may imagine after viewing our questions, interviewing Rev. Dean was a totally new experience for us because we had never asked a Reverend so many questions. We were amazed by Rev. Dean’s answers because he answered our questions patiently and based on what the Bible says to share a lot of opinions with us about honesty, chastity and so on. We were eager to know more about his thoughts.
We all felt that nobody, except Rev. Dean, could share his views about different taboos like teen sex with us openly. We could learn from him about the ways we should do to be good Christians in this world. Now, we all understand that we should live like submarines in the ocean. We are in this world, but not of this world. We should follow the footsteps of Jesus Christ and determine to live a Christian life so that we can all be good witnesses of God to the world.
Was talking to him funny and meaningfully? Of course! It was an unforgettable morning to all of us. It would be great if we could talk to him again to share our ideas with each other once more.

Hi! I’m Beryl. My friends always call me ‘OREO’ (But seriously, I really don’t know why!) I live in Hong Kong. I’m a secondary one students at MKP. I’m 12 years old and my birthday is on 6th March.
I have a younger brother called Micheal. He is two years younger than me. He is in primary four and he is a prefect. We’re not very close because we’re not in the same school and we go to our school by different means of transport.
My Hobbies
I lover surfing, cycling and watching TV. Micheal is keen on surfing too. Micheal loves playing GTA (GTA is a game). I always keep him company as I love playing GTA too. My Dad, Daniel, is a cook and my Mum is a housewife. Her name is Ivy.
During my free time, I always play MSN and Facebook. I also love reading my firnd’s ‘blogs’ but I hate blogging.
My weekend activities
On Sundays morning, my family and I always go to church. After that, we go back home and I have to do my homework. (You know, that’s life!)

History Day - Lost in Ancient Egypt (13 October 2010)
Today is our school’s History Day (13 October 2010). With the help of the History and English teachers, small groups of S2, S4 and S5 students prepared eight English activities at the School Hall during lunchtime (1:25 pm – 2:05 pm) for our junior secondary students to understand more about ancient Egypt, speak in English and have fun.
The communicative, dynamic and creative activities were welcomed by the participants and nearly all S1 and S2 students joined the games. They had a lot of fun in using English to play the games with their peers and understand more about the life of the ancient Egyptians!

Should the ‘Earth Hour’ be a practice or a moment? (7B Kiki Fong)
Earth Hour – a yearly campaign encouraging people to turn off lights for one hour is thought as a success. Some environmentalists suggest the activity should be held every month. Write an article for your school magazine saying why you think this is or is not a good idea.
Climate change can be considered as one of the harmful effects of global warming, which is also a global crisis that we should pay undivided attention. ‘Earth Hour’ is an annual campaign held by the World Wide Fund for Nature that aims at raising awareness of environmentalism. It is considered a decisive victory. Some environmentalists are discussing whether this movement should be made monthly rather than yearly. Yet, I am against this idea for the following reasons.
Firstly, making the ‘Earth Hour’ a monthly campaign may reduce its effectiveness. Clearly, a monthly ‘practice’ is much less appealing than a yearly ‘movement’. The ‘Earth Hour’ is a great achievement because the concept of ‘green city’ successfully strikes people by gathering countries to turn off their lights for an hour. People have been stunned by the difference and could realize the notion because they have experienced the difference between the hour of light-out and other bright nights. However, if it is done monthly, people would get used to it soon and the effect would fade out. Take the Olympic Games as an example, if this international sports festival were held yearly instead of every four years, it would not be that attractive and people would not care the event that much, so is the ‘Earth Hour’.
Another thing we should bear in mind is that a monthly ‘Earth Hour’ is actually not practical. Turning off the lights for a single hour is sweet. However, it will become annoying when it becomes many ‘hours’ as what we are facing is not just an hour of unusual blackout but hours of frequent blackout. Famous scenic spots, like the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Opera House in Sydney and the Big Ben in London would all turn off their lights to support the ‘Earth Hour’. If they all go dark every month, tourism would doubtless be affected. This is not a good sign to all cities. Very soon, people would feel great inconvenience caused and would abandon the movement.
Some enthusiasts have stated that turning off the lights once a month is not just a save-the-earth campaign but also a way to help solve the light pollution problem. Doubtless, switching off the lights for an hour every month simply has a symbolic meaning but really does little in solving the light pollution, needless to say climate change. Despite the support from the government and part of the commercial sector, there are still countless buildings in the city, staying bright and shiny throughout the night. Global warming cannot be easily solved by simply implementing the ‘Earth Hour’ campaign. Although it is a very great step in linking the world together to fight this global crisis, it is not the ultimate solution to the problem.
To tackle climate change, we must make a group effort. Education at school is essential. We must keep supporting the yearly ‘Earth Hour’ campaign, and also green groups like Greenpower and the Friends of the Earth. Our Earth’s future is in our hands. Together, we can make this single gloomy and dark night bright and green.

My generation (Kennis Ho)
Now I am a teenager who is 15 years old. My generation is full of advanced electrical gadgets, fashion, pop star, etc. Teenagers like fashonable things and they would like to follow the trends. Also, teenagers love famous brands very much, they think the famous brands can make them more confident of themselves. The most important thing is teenagers always change their mobile phone, handbag, clothes, shoes, etc. Even though their mobile phone, handbag are still very new or have been bought for a short time. It wastes the things and money. I think teenagers do not know that they should treasure the things they have. Also, they should learn the method for spending money. That’s my generation!

They become disobedient and want to get rid of the control from their parents. Their temper varies a lot.
However they start to think critically about some events and they have become more independent than before. They will try to consider about their future. They can get experience after several failures. This can help them to walk towards success. Although we are disobedient, we need advice and instruction from adults.

Movie Review ((Movie: UP!) 3D Kwok Hoi Yin, Agnes

The movie “Up” is about an old man called Carl Frederickson. He was pursuing his dream even though he was already very old. When Mr. Frederickson and his wife, Ellie, were young, they dreamed about traveling to Paradise Falls located in a lost land in South America. Until his wife died, they still had not yet got a chance to visit there. Frederickson wanted to finish their dream.
Frederickson set off his journey all in a sudden. He tied ten of thousands of balloons with his house so that it could fly in the sky. He traveled with a wilderness explorer called Russell. They met a dog called Dug and a bird called Kevin on their journey. Finally, they managed to arrive
Paradise Falls after many difficulties.
I really like Mr. Frederickson because
he was a kind old man. He was so brave that he set off a journey which is totally an unknown.
In the movie, you can always see the quote “The stuff I am going to do in my life” on Ellie’s diary. I want to live happily every day. I know it is quite difficult, but I will try my best to be as happy as I could every moment.
I would recommend this movie to my friend because the movie is funny, exciting and meaningful. It encourages people to strive for their dreams.

Should students of SMKMCF Ma Ko Pan Memorial College keep a pet? (2B Chan Cheong Shing)
Should students of SMKMCF Ma Ko Pan Memorial College keep a pet? Personally, I believe it is good for students of Ma Ko Pan Memorial College to keep a pet.
First of all, keeping pets is a good way for students to learn about the animals’ living habits. Students will be in charge of many things to do with their pets like feeding them, grooming them or cleaning their cages. During the process, students can learn how to take care of their pets.
Secondly, students can release their stress after school by stroking their pets. Many doctors said that stroking pets, particularly cats, could help people reduce stress. They said the repetitive action of stroking a warm animal helped people relieve stress or tension, making them more relaxed and comfortable.
Thirdly, students can also learn to be more responsible and have better time management. For example, if you have a dog, you have to walk it and feed it every day. Students have to take care of their pets and do homework every day. As a result, students have to be responsible for their pets as well as manage their time well. Keeping a pet can thus train them to be more reliable.

A Strange Dark Tale (2A Ng Wai Kiu)
My name is Jack. I worked in a photographic studio. It sells photos and helps people to take photos like passport photos. I was just a boy who worked there. But, I was killed there yesterday.
Let me tell you my story. Yesterday, I did what I had to do as usual. I got the camera ready and went to the dark room to take the films. But, what happened afterwards was very strange.
After I went into the dark room, where the photos were, the dark room door was suddenly closed. I quickly opened it. I saw the studio owner, Mr. Lee. “Sorry! I don’t know you are here,” he said. But I sensed something bad would happen to me.
At night, Mr. Lee was gone. I was alone in the studio. When I wanted to leave, a little girl came in. “Hi! Can you take a photo for me?” she said. I was frightened, but I still took a photo for her. “Please sit and smile,” I said. But the girl didn’t listen to me. She ran into the dark room quickly. Meanwhile, my body was suddenly out of control. I went into the dark room too! “Bang!” The door was closed. The girl laughed at me. I was frightened. I tried to run, but I could not move. I just listened to her. Holding a camera, she said, “One, two, three. Smile!” and I was dead.

Story Rewriting: King Midas’ Touch (Greek Myth) （3A Wong Cheuk-lai, Chapmann）
Long ago there lived in the country of Lydia a king who had everything a king could want. His name was Midas; however he was not happy. He longed to be even richer.
One day, while walking in his garden, he saw an elderly man asleep in his famous rose garden. Taking pity on the old fellow, King Midas let him go without punishment. When the god Bacchus, who was a great friend of the old man, heard about that, he asked what Midas wanted as a reward.
‘I will grant you any wish you make,’ said the god to the King…

King Midas was excited to hear that.
‘Although I’ve everything I want, I’m not happy. I will be the happiest man if I become the richest man in the world.’ King Midas thought. So he told God Bacchus, ‘Would you grant me the wish to become the richest man in the world?’
Then God Bacchus replied after a moment of hesitation, wondering why such a rich king would still ask for more. ‘Well… let me see… no problem! I now give you a special magic to turn everything you touch into gold. Then, you’ll become very rich in just a touch!’
After that, King Midas walked into his rose garden. He tried to smell the scent of those beautiful roses. However, the roses all turned into gold once the king touched them. The king was totally astonished by his magic touch.
Then, the king entered his bedroom. He tried to touch everything in his bedroom. He was extremely thrilled to see that all furniture, decorations and his clothes turned into gold in just a second.
‘I will become the richest man in the world for sure! Bravo!’ the king exclaimed.
At that moment, Princess Lily greeted his father. The king was too ecstatic to tell her daughter about his magic power. All in a sudden, Princess Lily turned into a golden statue as he was hugging her lovely daughter.
The king was shocked and grievous. He didn’t know what to do. Things went even worse when the king’s servants were too scared and all fled from the king. The king was left alone in the palace. He was so hungry too because what he tried to eat or drink turned into gold when he touched them.
Two days later, the kings’ relatives, who were not welcomed by the king before, and three friends of the king, who had received financial help from the King many years ago, came to help him. They even fed him with food. The king was greatly moved by their kindness. He now understood the key to happiness is something more than money.
He begged God Bacchus to take back his golden touch power. Everything back to normal, God Bacchus also saved her daughter at last.
Wealth can never bring us happiness, but genuine friendship and true love do.

My School Hero— Mr. Chu (4DE Fung Wai Yan)
My school hero is Mr. Chu. He is not tall and his skin is not dark. His look is not fashionable because he has a pair of black glasses and always wears shirts. He is very strict and therefore he gives me a stressful feeling though he always smiles. His job is to be a good teacher and train us to have a good manner and a positive attitude.
Well, although I feel terrible in front of him, I think he is a hero. Why do I say that? I think he is responsible, honest, and brave. He is a Maths teacher and he taught me in Form 3. I was so happy having his lessons. It is easy for me to understand how to do the Maths questions in his lesson. He is so brave facing the naughty students, helping them know their wrongs, and respecting their teachers.
He is really special. How can he solve the problems among students bravely and correctly? Well, isn’t it amazing?
I hope I can see him in school everyday, and see him smiling.

Threats making animals endangered
We all know global warming affects humans. Do you know it also causes animals to be endangered. It damages their natural habitats. For example, as the icebergs in the North Pole are melting, Polar bears are losing their habitats. Besides, human activities like logging and deforestation are other factors destroying wild animals’ food and habitats, hence making these animals endangered.
Why we should protect endangered animals
There is only a small number of endangered animals left in the world. If we do not protect them, they will disappear very soon. This will break the food chain, affecting all other animals in the world. In the end, humans will suffer. Because of a lack of food, animals will intrude the places where humans live to look for food. The animals may even attack humans for food.
How to encourage young people to protect endangered animals
We should make young people understand why we should protect endangered animals. We can also encourage young people not to play computer games or use buy new electronic devices so often so that the problem of pollution, hence global warming, will be eased. They should try to put themselves in wild animals’ shoes. If they were wild animals and their homes were destroyed by humans, how would they feel?
Action we can take now
After knowing the importance of protecting endangered animals, why don’t you send messages to your friends and family to encourage them to take action to protect wild animals together?

People satisfy their wants by all means. It is unfair! Like the Moon bears in China, they are maltreated. People cut their paws and keep them into small cages. Jonathan: Oh, my goodness!
Yvonne: What’s up, Jonathan? You look so frustrated.
Jonathan: Yup! Somebody copied my design for the fashion design competition.
Yvonne: Really? I’m so sorry but how can I help you?
Jonathan: Umm…Did you see anyone used my laptop when I left it here?
Yvonne: Let me think… umm… No! (Doubtfully) nobody used your laptop before.
Ashley: I did see somebody used your laptop. (Fade In)
Jonathan: Who was that?
Ashley: That was you! Oh, that’s joking but I did hear somebody sued you for copying his design.
Yvonne: Who is the guy?
Ashley: Michael told me he was Mickey Cheung.
Jonathan: What? I must tell the teacher the truth. (Crossed)
Narrator: Without a doubt, Jonathan is really angry and he tries to tell the truth to the teacher. However, he has no evidence to prove himself and finally, both of them were disqualified. Now, he meets his friend in the McDonald restaurant.

Michael: Hi, Jonathan, are you all right? I heard someone sued you for copying. What’s happening?
Jonathan: In fact, he stole my idea for the fashion design competition. Then, he told the teacher he was the victim. (Angry)

Jonathan: No, I haven’t. That’s why I’m so frustrated now.
Andrew: Hi, Jonathan, where’ve you been? I couldn’t find you when I got here.

The UK is one of the most developed as well as civilized societies in the world, I wonder why such illegal activity, especially internal trafficking, can still be found in this country After reading the news article, I found a shocking reason behind this crime.
Actually, the reason why British children are being trafficked is because of their ignorance. In most cases, the victims were befriended by the culprits who pretended to be helpful and generous. Their tricks included making advances to the victims and forcing the girls to ‘payback’ by having sex with him and his friends. Needless to say, money is always involved in such deal.
It is terrible, isn’t it?
However, the majority of victims dared not tell the others as they felt ashamed of themselves. It becomes a vicious cycle since no one is accused and no consequence is involved when everyone zips their lips.
Indeed, the incident is familiar to me as I believe some of the teenage girls in Hong Kong must have encountered this problem as well. Meeting boyfriend is something as casual as having lunch with friends in many teenage girls’ eyes. They obey what their boyfriends request them to do for it is what they think the only way to express love, but actually they are wrong as they put their own safety at risk.
In fact, I have been concerning about this issue for years as I always hear some of my friends say quite a number of girls in our school are going out with boys casually. Dating is really romantic, but true love should only be built on trust, respect and protection.

Should the Zoological Garden be closed? (6B Edmund Wong)
Zoos are well known for keeping animals for us to visit. However, many people believe that zoos are cruel and inhumane and thus they must all be closed down. Recently, an animal rights group in Hong Kong has argued for the closure of our local zoo – Zoological Garden in Central. In the following paragraphs, I am going to discuss why it is liable to be closed down, and why not.
Animals, like human beings, are independent to each other, with respect to their lives, rights and freedom to move, breathe and eat. Animals kept in zoos are individually closed in cages or restricted area. Also most of them cannot eat anything until the zookeepers feed them. Their freedom of movement has been deprived by the zoos. They cannot live in a natural way. To some extent, this is not healthy to them. For example, in order to keep wings healthy and strong, birds must fly in a long distance every day. In the zoos, however, their flying distance is limited by the nets. Eventually, their wings may become weakened. Some decades later, their next generation may be born with weaker wings, and finally unable to fly like their “ancestors”. This is a potential threat to those animals kept in the zoos. Moreover, some zoos in the world treat animals in cruel and inhumane way. The Manila Zoo is an example: the zoo is small, but it keeps wild animals such as lions and tigers, which need hundreds of kilometers of roaming areas. As a result, they are forced to live in an overcrowded area like prisoners, with boredom and loneliness. Some studies found that such a bad, stressful condition could lead animals to self-mutilation and abnormal self-destructive behavior. So, it is not desirable for animals to be kept in zoos with poor and inhumane management.
However, how is the actual situation of the Zoological Garden? Is it worthwhile to be closed? Probably not.
Nowadays, illegal inhumane animal hunters, located everywhere in the world, target on different kinds of animals like rhinos, bears and elephants, in order to get certain parts and organs from them for medical purposes and handicraft decorations. Zoos act as a shelter to protect animals from being killed and hurt. In addition to animal conservation, zoos can also help to breed the animals, making them continue to inherit and develop. In this aspect, the Zoological Garden has done very well. Decades ago, it has successfully conserved the local unique species, Hong Kong Newt, which was originally found in Chap Lap Kok, where the airport is located now. Without the Zoological Garden, those unique species might become extinct during the construction of airport. Also, the Garden only keeps small mammals, birds and reptiles in artificial habitats tailor made for them. So the animals can live in the Garden in a healthy and humane way. The problem of Manila Zoo does not exist in Hong Kong.
On the other hand, the mission and value of the Zoological Garden is to foster people’s understanding of animals, and educate them to respect and appreciate the independence of nature. Only education and demonstration in zoos can eradicate the misunderstanding of animals by people, and remind people to respect all living things in the world. Otherwise, the problems of animal abuse and illegal hunting would continue to exist, or even become more serious.
I really appreciate the Zoological Garden’s effort and contribution to animal conservation and education of animal rights. I think the Garden should not be closed down, as it plays an important role in animal breeding and protection from illegal hunters and animal abusers. Also, it is good for people to learn about the independence of nature by visiting the lovely, energetic mammals, birds and reptiles. Thus, they would be aware of what animal rights are and start to respect animals. It would be a pity if the Garden is closed down.

This is going to be the end of our planet and scientists hasn’t yet figured out a way to deal with the issue.
